Celebrating Romania's National Day in Emden Parish
On December 1, the Emden Parish was filled with an atmosphere of celebration and unity, marking Romania's National Day.
The day began with the participation of the faithful in the Holy Liturgy, an uplifting moment of prayer and gratitude for the blessings received. At the end of the service, a special prayer was said for the Romanian people, urging us to keep alive the love for our faith, nation and traditions. We also enjoyed the presence of the former parish priest of Emden Parish, Father Ioan Liviu Micu, who brought an addition of blessing and multiplied the prayer with us.
After the service, all those present stayed for a fraternal agape, an occasion of joy and communion. The meal, lovingly prepared by the parishioners, included traditional Romanian dishes that delighted the tastes of all participants.
In the church, those present had the opportunity to admire a special exhibition of traditional Romanian objects - folk costumes, fabrics, ceramics and other elements that remind us of the cultural richness of our nation. Also, several old copies of writings by well-known Romanian writers were exhibited, offering an opportunity to reflect on the literary values that define us as a people.
A special moment of the day was the visit of the representative of the Faldernkonferenz, the Pastor of the Evangelical Old Reformed Parish. During his speech at the end of the service, he addressed a warm word to those present, emphasizing the importance of love for one's neighbor and for God. It is also worth recalling the involvement of the parish he pastors in charitable activities organized annually, in support of children in Romania. These generous initiatives were a telling example of solidarity and Christian love.
The Romanian National Day in Emden Parish was not only a celebration of our national identity, but also a reaffirmation of our spiritual and cultural connection. Through such events, we strive to keep our heritage alive and pass it on to future generations.
Happy birthday, Romania! Happy birthday to all Romanians!

WARNING! FALSE!
A "press release" attributed to the Romanian Patriarchate is going viral on WhatsApp and social networks, containing "useful criteria for guiding voters towards a fair, responsible and useful election for the country." The Romanian Patriarchate states in a statement for Digi24.ro that the document is false and "induces the idea of promoting a certain candidate."
The document is circulating online in the form of a photograph and has the Romanian Patriarchate's letterhead. The "communication" lists the "guidelines" for assessing candidates for the presidential elections, as they were presented in the "Guidelines approved by synodal decision no. 1731 of February 29, 2024", published by the Orthodox Church's press agency, Basilica.ro, on March 10, 2024.
The "Communiqué" ends with the phrase "We pray to the Good God to enlighten our minds and souls to choose a leader who loves his country, is worthy, has integrity, promotes and defends Christian moral values and the interests of the Romanian people."
The Romanian Patriarchate stated in a statement to Digi24.ro that the document is fake: "This press release was NOT issued by the Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate. The header and logo are not the current ones, and the registration number is fake," the Patriarchate's statement states.
Furthermore, the same source claims that "the final phrase is false and suggests the idea of promoting a particular candidate."
The Patriarchate further specifies, regarding the "criteria" that also appear in the "communication", that they were established by the Holy Synod in 2008 and "have been published repeatedly since then until now, being based on the teaching of faith and Christian morality, including during this year. They are simple indicative recommendations, since each person's vote is a manifestation of freedom of conscience and a personal responsibility."
"The Romanian Orthodox Church firmly rejects any involvement in the electoral campaign," the Patriarchate's statement also states.

Announcement to the believers!
Update:
- 11.11.2024: half of the amount needed to purchase the projector has already been donated to the Parish account.
- 02.12.2024: As you have learned, the proposed ones have already been accomplished. Our parish now has increased capacities to support even larger projects.
Dear believers,
With your help and support, our parish has managed over time to develop activities that bring great benefits to our community, both for young people and adults. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contributions, which made this possible.
In order to further improve the quality of these activities and to adapt to current needs, we intend to purchase a projector (beamer) for the parish. This will be an extremely useful tool in conducting meetings and educational activities, both for youth programs and for training and information programs dedicated to adults. The projector will allow us to present visual materials that will enrich the experience of the participants and facilitate the communication of our message.
To realize this project, we need your generous support. Any donation, no matter how small, will contribute to the purchase of this necessary equipment. Together we can add value to parish activities and continue to build a united and involved community.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and for the faith you have in us!
With blessing,
parish priest Vlad-Cătălin LIA
Announcement to the faithful of the Emden Parish
Our dear believers,
We write to you with hearts full of gratitude for all the support you have given Emden Parish over the years. Thanks to your help, we have been able to maintain spiritual life and develop projects that have benefited our community.
However, we would like to inform you that in recent times, the costs necessary to maintain the parish have increased significantly. We maintain the church, organize events and activities, and all of this depends entirely on the financial support of the faithful.
We humbly ask that you continue to support us, so that together we can carry on our work. With your help, we will not only be able to maintain the parish's activity, but we will also be able to improve and expand our activities and projects for our dear community.
We thank those who already support our work, for their generosity and for being with us in this effort to preserve and develop the parish.
For those who would like to join us, giving us support, we ask that they contact Father Vlad, receiving all the details from him.
With love,

Changes in Emden Parish
07.07.2024
Between 1 - 6.07.2024, beautification works took place in the Romanian Orthodox Chapel in Emden.
Thus, with the goodwill of a few souls who love beauty and tradition, with the careful supervision of Father Vlad, a Iconostasis in the Romanian place of worship in Emden, which can be found at Emsmauerstraße 3, 26721 Emden.
The first service in the "new" location brought joy to people's faces and souls, this change bringing even more meaning to the place and reminding us of the ancient traditions of the Romanian people.
In the future, we will take care of the covering of the Altar and the Iconostasis. There will also be other changes throughout the church.
We extend our warm thanks to those who made sure this work was accomplished!
We pray to God that their names may be eternally remembered in the Kingdom of Heaven!
Indeed, now we can say: The Church in the Bunker!
Glory to God for everything!

We all celebrated Sunday, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, according to ancient customs:
We dressed in our finest clothes and set our steps toward the Lord.
We paid tribute to the folk costume, but also to the Romanian Tricolor.
We prayed for our children at the end of the school year.
I read the Kneeling Prayers to receive the help and protection of the Holy Spirit.
At the end, we blessed and sprinkled holy water on the cars of all those who wished to do so, thus preparing them for the trips to be made this summer, so that all those who will travel in them will return safely from their journeys.
The day ended with those of us who remained cooling off with an ice cream from our Parish.
We thank the Lord for everything!

My story, my museum object
06/17/2024
Collection of conceptual documents: History of migration
My Story - My Museum Object: The History of Migration in OLME
During the Intercultural Weeks 2024 and beyond, the Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum Emden is collecting objects that tell the stories of migration in Emden and East Frisia. Under the motto "My story - my object in the museum", people who themselves or whose ancestors fled or emigrated to Germany are invited to lend or donate special objects to the museum. At the same time, the museum wants to record the stories behind the objects and prepare them for posterity. The aim is to add the history of migration to the OLME collection. From September to December 2024, a selection of the donated and loaned objects will be presented in a showcase.
Germany is a country of diverse immigration. Since the post-war period, our society has become more diverse and culturally colorful. The stories of guest workers, migration and flight are closely intertwined with contemporary German history. Unilateral collecting has led to imbalances in the collections of city and regional museums, such as the Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum Emden. These imbalances must be compensated for by collection appeals. The collection should be oriented towards the diversity of society.
On a total of four dates (June 21, August 9, August 16, August 23 - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.), a member of the museum staff will be on site at the Kulturbunker Emden (Geibelstraße 30A) to present the project and answer questions. Anyone who would like to donate one or more objects to the museum (either as a loan or as a donation) can find out more information on site. Interested individuals and institutions can contact the museum directly (contact: lena.leinich@emden.de, 04921 87 2078). A joint meeting is then arranged at the museum, where the objects are handed over and a biographical interview is conducted. A presentation of the museum will also take place during the meeting. Interpreters (translators) from the Kulturbunker can be present at this meeting on request.
Those interested in taking part in this beautiful activity, developed by the city of Emden together with the Regional Museum, can contact Mrs. Leinich directly (contact details are above), or Father Vlad.
The Romanian community in the area represents the fourth minority. Therefore, it is fitting that the stories of the Romanians should also be known!

This office will collaborate closely with all local or state departments in the area, trying to resolve situations in which Romanian citizens may find themselves.
The office will be open on Mondays, between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM, in Kulturbunker Emden, 2nd floor, room 3.

New products at the Parish Pantry
03.06.2024
Dear believers,
We have taken note of the fact that it is necessary to update the Pangar (Religious Products Store), which is now much enriched.
Among the most notable, we can mention the cleanest Romanian wine on the market. Coming from the vineyards of the Romanian Patriarchate, it is found only in Romanian places of worship. Produced under careful supervision and taking into account being as clean as possible, it stands out for its beautiful and clear flavors, competing at the highest level.
We recommend trying Wormwood, which is produced according to an old monastery recipe and was considered a cure at the time.
We look forward to seeing you!

communique
1/2024 of 28.05.2024
Dear believers,
I dare to come before you with the request to stand with us in all the parish's activities, actions, and projects.
The parish is the area served by a church, its area of activity. The parish means the community, but especially the communion of the people in that territory served. The parish is the people. The parish is made up of each of you.
The Church is One, Holy and Catholic! But it does not say anywhere that it belongs to one person alone, or to specific groups. The Church belongs to everyone. And each Church in an area belongs to everyone in the area it serves.
I dare to ask you to continue to be with us, the Parish, the Church and me. We have much to do, we have many plans, but we cannot do it alone. I need the Church, and the Church needs the Parish so that we can accomplish great and beautiful things.
After 3 years of growth (experience) we can start building. Let's build a future for ourselves, but especially for those who will come after us. A future where, in difficult times, they will have a place of retreat, of defense, of reassurance and peace. A place where they can find or rediscover God, a place where they can find or rediscover their past.
Each Christian can support his community, supporting the church, thereby preserving the traditions and customs of the nation. There is no need for great support from each one, but each one can help according to his ability and desire. However, we also know from the tradition of our nation that, "where there are two, the strength increases". So, if each one helps a little, but the number is large, the things we will be able to do will be wonderful. The way to support is simple and within everyone's reach!
Those who wish to join, through support, the activities and projects of the Emden Parish, please write to me or contact me, immediately receiving the necessary details!
I convey my best wishes to you all,
parish priest Vlad-Cătălin Lia

Also, any association or resemblance to some characters from cartoons or children's stories will not be found on these.

The Resurrection of the Lord, in images

Update:

Dear believers,
Precisely because we see, with each passing year, that we are increasingly deviating from such beautiful Romanian traditions, the church's duty is to always remember, and to try as much as it can, that the Feast of Holy Easter is about the Savior, and not about bunnies laying eggs!
The Feast of Holy Easter (Holy Resurrection) is about humility, repentance, forgiveness, kindness, etc.
The Holy Resurrection is not about eating a lot and drinking in moderation, but about restraint, about abstinence, about moderation.
The Holy Light is not about the candle, but about letting ourselves be led, literally, by our Lord and God himself, Jesus Christ!
All of this, we have a duty to preserve and pass on to future generations, having this mandatory responsibility!
Through the activities carried out within the Romanian churches, we try to "keep the flame of faith burning." Our church does not shrink from this mission either, trying through its capabilities to preserve and perpetuate Romanian traditions.
The activity of the Parish Workshop - My Prayer Garden - is precisely intended to correct what society wrongly teaches.
We remind you of the true meaning and symbolism of the Lord's Resurrection. By creating "Prayer Gardens" on Palm Sunday (the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem), we remind you - symbolically - of the journey of Jesus Christ until the Crucifixion, the Garden of Gethsemane representing a very important moment in God's work of salvation of the world.
We are waiting for you to accompany the Savior on His journey to Golgotha, to all welcome the Savior at the entrance to Jerusalem, as is fitting, by participating in the Holy Liturgy, followed by the blessing of willow branches - a symbolism that keeps the Feast of Palms in our hearts, then, through the activity of the parish Workshop, to accompany the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane, where we try to pray together with Him.
With joy,
Parish priest Vlad-Cătălin Lia

The Beginning of Lent
Dear believers,
November 15 is a well-known date in the Christian culture of the Romanian people, as the starting day of the Lenten fast.
We are therefore approaching, with small but sure steps, the great and wonderful celebration of the Birth of the Holy Child.
It is fitting, then, that we prepare ourselves for this wonderful encounter with the divine Child. I propose that together we bring thanks and glory to God through a small sacrifice.. To show God that we are grateful for all that we have in our lives, it would be beautiful and pleasing to Him if we all began to fast, as a true community, and, above all, to confess (confess our sins) and to receive communion (to physically meet with Christ).
I urge you to come to the confessional, especially now, at the beginning of Lent, and especially all those who have children (whether your own or spiritual - stepchildren), in order to be a worthy example for them to follow. Then, together, share, bringing great joy to the Lord, but especially to you. Realize that the duty of parents is also to care for the souls of their sons/daughters (bodily / spiritual), not just physically.
With joy, on the Nativity of the Lord,
Parish Priest Vlad-Cătălin Lia

Dear believers,
Dear parents,
Here we are, again this year, around the Winter Holidays.
We know that along with this, we will also enjoy the arrival of the two Santas so dear to everyone. We also know that, this year too, they must not be missing from our parish.
Thus, we will prepare gifts for the "little ones", which they will receive at the Holy Church, just like in previous years.
If you would like to support us in this annual endeavor, we thank you in advance!
There are 3 ways to support us, by leaving your help in the donation box in the church, in the parish account, or even directly to the priest.
With thanks,

"The Leaving of the Century" for the Easter Lent
- We are, therefore, called to offer sacrifice to God and prepare ourselves for the encounter with Him, through this physical and spiritual ascent.
- Between 20.02.2023 and 26.02.2023, there is a relaxation in dairy, eggs and fish on Wednesdays and Fridays. Fish can be served throughout the mentioned period, not just on Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Let us set off as we should towards Golgotha, let us prepare for the wonderful encounter with Christ!
On Saturday, February 18, 2023, the Orthodox Church commemorates those who have passed away.
This Saturday is popularly known as "Winter Estates".
The completion of memorial services for the deceased in the Emden Parish:
- February 17, 2023, 7:30 p.m. - Norderney Church
- February 19, 2023, 11:30 a.m. - Emden Chapel
There is a commemoration of the dead, because the Church does not see death as the end of human existence. The Church calls those who have passed into the afterlife "asleep," a term that has the meaning of a state from which you can wake up. She is not talking about a transition into a state of nonexistence, but about a transition from one mode of existence to another. The Savior, when he arrives at the house of Jairus, whose daughter had died at only 12 years old, says: "Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping" (Luke: 8:52).
Winter estates
On the Saturday before the Sunday of the abstinence of meat, we commemorate the dead, because on the following Sunday the Church has ordained that the commemoration of the dead be celebrated. The Terrible Judgmentand the Second Coming of the Lord, at which we will all appear. Because many Christians have died unexpectedly and without the necessary preparation or repentance, the Church intercedes for all of them, so that they may enjoy eternal happiness.
Simion Florea Marian mentions in his work "Trilogia vietii", "that throughout the year, in the Romanian space there are 20 days of Mosi". The word "mosi" comes from "stramosi", and refers to people who have passed to the eternal. The name "mosi" refers not only to the dead, but also to the main holidays dedicated to them, as well as the memorial services held for them.
From the days of Mosi we remember:
- "Spring Estates" (by Macinici),
- "Summer Estates" (Saturday before Pentecost),
- "Autumn Estates" (on the first Saturday of November),
- "Winter Estates" (Saturday before the Sunday of the dry meat leavening).
Saturday, the day of remembrance of the fallen
The Holy Fathers have ordained that the commemoration of the dead should be held on Saturday, because it is the day on which Christ remained with his body in the tomb and with his soul in hell, in order to free the righteous who had fallen asleep. On the other hand, Saturday is open to Sunday, the day of resurrection with the body. Sunday is also called the eighth day, because it is the day of the beginning without end, it will not be followed by other days, it will be eternal.

Joint prayer for Turkey and Syria
On February 16, at the initiative of the City of Emden, a beautiful event took place in our community.
Small, big, white, less white, thin, fat, tall or not so tall, Turkish or Syrian, Christian or non-Christian, we gathered in the Central Square of Emden to bring a thought of embrace to those who are in times of difficult trial, but also a thought of forgiveness and salvation to those who lost their lives in the terrible event that occurred a week ago.
May the Lord bless them all!

"You don't know what you missed today!"
Although the year has just begun, finding us already after the Baptism of the Lord, a few young members of the Parish surprised us by bringing an old Romanian tradition to our midst. Capra, an old Romanian game, a tradition rooted in our culture, has found its place in the midst of our community.
Thank you to everyone involved, big and small!
Thank you for having the courage and strength to preserve our ancestral traditions!
